"Art in a Container" Competition
" Art in a Container" competition is the main event of the Kobe Biennale,
presented inside a dry freight container as an exhibition space (40-foot dry
container measuring 12 meters in length (depth) × 2.4 meters in width × 2.5 meters
in height). These freight containers are transported to and from Kobe, and are
integrally connected with the City of Kobe, and express the power and the possibility
of art condensed in a limited space in the container by the artist's free conception.
During the first selection phase, 45 prize-winning works were chosen based on
the documents, the models (1/20 size of the actual container), and the DVDs from
all 356 entries.
The second selection phase: Wednesday, October 3: Grand Prize
and Special Prize will be chosen from these 45 semi-finalists.

Robot Media Art Competition
This technology involves sensing, information processing and
machine control is considered “robotic” regardless of its form,
but it still requires more development for smooth human communication.
How should we interact with evolving technologies which involve
movement, sound, and image?
We invite the new art that utilized robot technology as a media.
Application period: Monday, August 27 to Friday, August 31,
2007 Items must arrive within those dates.
(1)The first selection phase: In early September, 2007. Prize-winning
works and winning works will be chosen based on the documents,
and DVDs/CDs.
(2)The second selection phase: Saturday, November 3, 2007 Grand
Prize, Special Prizes will be chosen from the prize-winning
works after the open examination with demonstration of the
actual objects.
Robot Media Art Competition
Participating Application
Universal Design (UD) Poster Competition
The approach to universal design (hereinafter UD) is positively
facilitated from the one-making to the city planning in various
fields. We invite posters for the Kobe Biennale 2007, which
fits the cosmopolitan city, Kobe, and is a plain and comprehensible
universal design for encounters.
Application period: Monday, August 13 to Friday, August 17,
2007 Items must arrive within those dates.
Examination: In early September, 2007

Competition Participating Application
Street Performance Competition (the second
recruitment)
From various parts of the country, street performers (As body
expression arts, the performances which can be widely enjoyed
in public such as juggling and pantomime) are gathered and
the Street Performance Competition is held. During the session,
the citizens’ judging panels and those attending the event
grade the numerous street performances and choose prizes at
the main venue, Meriken Park.
Final Examination (October 6 to 8, 2007): Grand Prize, Audience
Prize, and prize-winning works will be chosen by the vote of
citizens’ judging panels and those attending the event.
Modern Ceramic Art Competition
Regardless of tradition and forerunners, we invite the freely
created ceramic works. The size of works should be 90 cubic
centimeters or less, and weigh 60kg or less.
Application period (Scheduled): Wednesday, June 20 to Friday,
August 10, 2007 (postmark effective)
(1)The first selection phase (in the middle of September, 2007):
About 100 exhibition works will be chosen.
(2)The second selection phase (in early November, 2007): Grand
Prize, Semi-Grand Prize, and Jury's Special Prize will be chosen.
(Modern Ceramic Art works will be exhibited from Wednesday,
October 24 to Monday, November 5.)
Artistic Photo Competition
We invite the artistic photos with novel conception and techniques.
The size of works should be 80cm × 80cm or less including the
frame and the panel.
- (During the first selection phase, the application works
should be printed in cabinet size or 2L size when submitted.)
Application period: Monday, August 20 to Friday, September
7, 2007 Items must arrive within those dates.
The first selection phase: 100 winning works will be chosen.
The second selection phase: Grand Prize, Silver Prize, Copper
Prize, and Excellent Prize will be chosen.
The works will be exhibited from Wednesday, November 7 to Wednesday,
November 14.
"Floating Object" Art Competition
The floating space of the art objects are set up in the arcade
in Sannomiya Center-gai and the Motomachi shopping street
to lead to the Biennale main venue and brighten up the town.
To create the arcade as a gallery, it provides the space
where we can enjoy the arts, as if window shopping.

“Friends”
In a postcard, draw “Your Nice Face” or “image expressed as
Your Face”.
“You” in the postcard will attend to Kobe Biennale. Transport
containers of the exhibition space will see friends in all
around the world gathering and making new encounter through
art with various national cultures.
